1) Description
Remind 101 is a free app teachers can get to send reminders to parents and students. First, the teacher sets up an account, then creates accounts for the class. For a middle school or high school multiple accounts can be created so reminders can be sent to each class. The app will then provide a graphic that is to be share with the class. It includes what they need to text (usually the teacher's name) and a number to text it to. The app will respond and tell them to send their name, then they are done. The teacher now has a mass list of the students for that class. To do this the teacher taps on the compose button, types a message, and clicks send. Just like regular texting there is a maximum amount of characters that can be used. Depending on how the students set up their account they will then get a text or an email of the message.
This app has many advantages. One is that the message can be scheduled to go out in the future. When the message is created instead of tapping SEND tap SCHEDULE instead. The teacher then selects a time and date in the future and once it is time, the message will send. This is helpful for teachers because throughout the day they can create a message so they do not forget to later, but it will still send when they want it to. Another advantage is is being able to send a message to multiple classes. After selecting the class and type your message click the plus sign to add another class to the list. A third advantage is keeping track of every message sent. Some school make teachers document when they communicate with their students parents and Remind 101 allows them to keep track of when they sent the message. A huge issue that would be brought up with this app is that teachers are texting students which is not acceptable. However, phone numbers of students and parents are not accessible to the teacher and teacher numbers are not accessible to students or parents. There is also no limit to the number of parents or students that can receive a message. Every student can have both of their parent’s numbers in the system,. It will still work. Another advantage is that messages can go to email or text messages. Not all parents and students have cell phones, but because the message can be emailed someone will be able to get it. A final advantage is no one needs a Smartphone to get reminders. As long as the cellphone has texting you can get all the reminders.
I have personally had teachers who have used Remind 101. I love it. In my high school the NJROTC program was huge (over 200 students). Each of us were part of the Remind 101 for ROTC. Even parents were received the messages. There are different classes for each grade so the messages can be sent to class or to the whole unit. Parents love it too because as a group we did many events. Reminders were sent out about events going on that week.

3) Possible uses in the classroom including grade level relevancy, evaluation of the ease and probability of use
Remind 101 is an amazing tool for teachers. It can be used for any grade but it works best in older grades when students have their own cell phone or email account. Teachers manage the classroom account, students do not have access to the account. It is user friendly. Teachers create the account, give the students the class code and are done. Remind 101 is great to remind students of things after they leave the class. The teacher can send reminders about homework, tests, or even to remind them about a school event. I think this would be great to use as a teacher because students have so much going on throughout the day. Using Remind 101 helps them to make sure they get everything done.
4) Possible uses with diverse learners This app makes school much easier for students who are not organized. I know I have to write everything down or I will forget to do it. By using this it reminds the students who do not usually remember to do things that they have work to do. It allows all phones that get text messages to get the reminders, or through email which almost everyone has. This allows students who are underprivileged to get the messages as well.
